Music is a great inspiration. I listen to it while I work, think and rest. It uplifts my mood and helps to get those creative juices going. When I begin working on a project I like to start by playing music. This helps to lighten the mood and lets me loosen up my approach to drawing and painting. I mainly listen to hip-hop and rap music. The beat gives me rhythm and the rhymes give me confidence. Once I’m in my zone I usually can’t hear the music. It becomes a kind of background noise or impulse which keeps driving my creative energy.
I’ve made artwork influenced directly by listening to music and with specific music in mind. In ‘Get a job, Get a house, Get a coffin, 2017’ I made a drawing illustrating a line from the rap song “Don’t Get Captured” by hip-hop musicians Run the Jewels.
Here are my top tunes to work too;
